Alexander The Great, was gay?

Alexander III of Macedon better known as Alexander the Great is considered one of the most celebrated conquerors and strategists in history.

Alexander was the sun of the King of Macedon, Philip II and his fourth wife Olympias. During his adolescence Aristotle was his tutor and taught him about medicine, philosophy, morals, religion, logic and art.

For the Greek society, there was no problem to have sexual relationship with men of women, but it was expected for a man to marry and produce an heir.

Alexander married several times, but he was known for having a relationship beyond friendship with a man named Hephaestion.

Alexander was a very handsome man, as we can see in different portraits and sculptures. Some of the stories say that he had a very pleasant scent and he also loved to do a lot of exercise.

His lover Hephaestion was taller and more handsome than him, even a story says that when the Persian Queen arrived on front of Alexander and Hephaestion, she bowed Hephaestion misunderstanding who was who, Alexander just said to the queen “Never mind, Hephaestion is also Alexander”.

The history probably made more acceptable the relationship between Hephaestion and Alexander, till the point of saying that they were only best friends.

Alexander died when he was 32 years old. One theory about his death says that he probably was poisoned by his enemies, another one says that he probably died for natural causes or a disease like malaria or typhoid fever.
